The cross symbolizes the crucifixion of Christ who "died for our sins" — In Christian belief, sin creates spiritual distance or a separation from God.  The cross represents restoration of a renewed covenant with God, through Christ.   At its deepest level, the crucifixion is understood as the ultimate revelation of divine love — love that enters suffering, absorbs it, and transforms it into redemption.  The blue Star of David, created with an upward-pointing triangle often understood to represent humanity reaching toward God, and a downward-pointing triangle that symbolizes divine presence reaching toward humanity.
